New Year Interview With Kit-I

Hi guys, how was the concert on December 12, St. Petersburg?

Sergey: Excellent! All the jumping was awesome.
Pasha: Yes, our audience have always been very warm support.
Sonya: It was fun. Had a little autograph session. All were positive, fans was excited to get autographs and did not just crushed us(laughs).

Well, there were no casualties?

Sergey: Yeah, in comparison with the experience in Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk, it was all cool.

And what happened in these cities?

Grisha: The experience in Irkutsk was almost shot out of a horror movie. We were locked up in one small house, in sauna. Big white frosted glasses...The light of lonely lantern and suddenly tread(tramp) ,shadows in the window and someone began trying to enter our house.

Sergey: Yes, there was noises everywhere. We really just did not climbed under the table. (Smiles)

Grisha: And in Krasnoyarsk police saved us ...

Sonya: It was the City Day in Russia. Police were dressed in white. And there they are, so beautiful, we were surrounded. It was fun (smiles)

Grisha: Generally with us often amusing stories befall ...

Even some embarrassing stories?

Grisha: For example, Skittles lost all his belongings on the road into the river.

Pasha: Oh, yes ... In Michurinsk after the concert I went to the river to bathe. I lost my room key, mp3 player, phone (but then found). Mp3 player was the second time I lost it. It's a shame that it was quite new.

Grisha: Skitt spent half an hour in the grass, climbing, looking (laughs)

Pasha: Yeah, even as we lived on the second floor, I decided to get into the room through a window on a ladder, but failed.

You were recently in Latvia at the ceremony of award «OE video music awards» and returned to Russia with victories in two categories ...

Sonya: Yes, we won in the categories "Song of the Year" and "Most Sincere Nomination Of The Year." Thank you to our fans! They are the coolest! We watched the vote on the Internet. We're filled with emotions when we saw how many people voted for us! We have almost all the nominations leading in first place.

Pasha: Yes, they gave us a lot of votes. When we learned that we won ...this was surreal emotions.

How would you describe your style of music?

Sergey: Experimental!

Grisha: We are currently working on our first album, which will be a lot of experimentation with sound and style. We want to mix electronic music with rap and heavy music.

Pasha: We have a variety of songs, different from each other ...

Grisha: It's all due to the fact that we all listen to different kinds of music. Everyone wrote something of their own, and eventually obtained a mixture of absolutely different styles.

Sonya: And at the same time our songs are mostly in common, in the end, each - is a unified whole, where everything is harmonious.

When to expect the album?

Pasha: We're very likely going to finish the album, but we'd like to modify it at the end, so it was appreciated. We do not want to produce a crude product. Therefore, the specific date we cannot say yet.

Grisha: Release of first album - is a very important process. We are constantly thinking, is there anything to remove or add in. We probably already written about forty songs. Some of them to combine, some deleted altogether. For example, we already have about ten ballad, and we do not know what to do with them here.

Pasha: They can be distributed on 10 albums (laughs)

Sergey: Or to organize a 'Concert of Kit-I's Ballad' with an orchestra (laughs)

Who is your music for? Your listeners - what kind person?

Pasha: It is absolutely all different people. It's neither about age nor the other frameworks.

Grisha: Today, for example, we were approached by a man and said to us "thank you" for the song "After the Rain." We were very pleased. But the audience that listens to the music, and who goes to concerts - they are all different people. Adult male, for example, is unlikely to come to the concert.

For the song "Graduation"«Выпускной» it hits a lot of criticism because of alleged provocative lyrics in the chorus. What can you comment on this?

Grisha: The lyrics can be perceived totally differently. Each perceives the extent of their depravity. The lyrics of the chorus ... "At first hurt, then pleased, on the morning of shame, well, that's a graduation ..." What could it mean? First hurts to say goodbye to the school, then pleased to realize that you are no longer in school and can afford the extra, for example, talking back to the teacher, to which the boring time of studying.  In the morning you realize that a surge of emotion does not justify such conduct in relation to the teacher and felt ashamed.

On your guitar we can often see the crosses. Whether it is connected with the subculture «Straight edge»?

Sonya: No. It's just a Greek cross as an element of decoration There are many different crosses: Latin, Maltese, Greek ...

Grisha: And yet it is a sign of the Russian Navy since Peter I ... Why it is immediately connected to Straight edge? Straight edge ideas of the subculture of course it's good. They are good fellows, that do not drink, smoke, and promote it. Today, it is especially important. No matter where when you go out into the yard, there is sure some drunken company hanging out. But I do not support the idea of a complete failure, forcing himself into the frame. A man must know when to stop and he understood what he needed and what is not.We are not saying that we do not drink, but we're not boozing all day. Why become a "monk", refusing to do something if it is possible to adequately assess the situation and know when to stop everything.

Sonya: If they drive themselves into a framework, it is only exacerbate internal state.

You are often spotted with new tattoos. Can you tell us about their meaning?

Sergey: (looking at his hand) Here's my all-seeing eye. Flowers ... it's something different. Here «Life is good» (the fingers) and here (in the neck), the Virgin Mary.

Sonya: I have a new tattoo on my back. This phrase is very important for me personally. I will not quote it, but I will tell the meaning of - no matter what happens, always acts as your heart dictates.

Pasha: Blue Rose (on hand) means striving for new achievements, to perfection. I did this tattoo when we began to develop. I wanted to remember all this important moment in our lives.

Grisha: I have tattoos that are about the memory of important events, or interesting thoughts. This tattoo is dedicated to one very close to me essentially a pet (a burning heart with the inscription Immortal on the hand) And here (on both hands) says "Mom" and "daddy." What is written on the fingers(knuckles) I will never say. A Chinese will understand everything (smiling). Once a Chinese kid read it and was mildly surprised (smiling). On hand I have written, "Who needs flowers when you're dead." On the shoulder shows a little altered album cover Metallica «... and justice for all». I decided on this tattoo because I like the idea of the album, the claim that freedom and justice ... and much more ... - all sold in our time. For me very important and topical issue of corruption and worthlessness of our society.

How many of you writes the lyrics? And where they usually inspired from?

Sergey: We write together, but mostly Sonya and Grisha.

Sonya: Ideas come totally unexpected. Sometimes, you wake up in the morning and was inspired by a dream which many thoughts that add up to a cool lyrics.

Grisha: The most annoying thing was on the night before you found some excellent lyrics in your head. You thought: "I'll wake up in the morning and write down everything." And then you wake up and remember nothing. All just like a dream.

Sonya: Interesting tunes, too, sometimes it comes at night.

Remember your first appearance before a large audience?

Sergey: It was on Poklonnaya Hill. Unrealistically steep memories ... euphoria.

Pasha: I was overwhelmed with happiness.

Grisha: We were worried. We even shook hands before going on stage. But when you start - it just shut off all the fears, you're like a different person.  It's really cool!

How to deal with stress before a performance? Do you have any rituals?

Sergey: We stands in a circle and hug before going on stage.

Were there funny things on stage, funny situations?

Sonya: With me, there was one case during a speech at Poklonnaya Hill. A huge crowd ...behind the big monitors show Grisha. I shook my foot with too much forces, and my shoe flew off. I am insanely scared, because it flew straight to Grisha and just a couple inches to the rear of his head. That was in early intervention. Then I found a video where this point was clearly visible.

Pasha: I often fall down on stage (laughs). Very energetic jumping and falling.

Sergey: One day we took part in the filming of the show at the СТС. In the studio there were white decorations. I was sure that it was a white concrete floor, but it was cardboard. Everyone laughed at me (smiles). More happened during the performance, the drumsticks hits me on the nose.

Grisha: I have to face myself sometimes in the guitar part . Once the string broke and it hurt my hand. During a concert once, three strings were broken. This was the second guitar, a spare nebylo. I had to finish the song like this. Well, there's one song left. Sometimes I edited the lyrics. But I'm not alone. Previously, I was fascinated by Kurt Cobain. He did this every time in the song «Smells like teen spirit» there was new lyrics.

Do you think the popularity has changed you?

Grisha: None. We are the same ... each with its constant inner world of ideas.

Sergey: And together we take in all as warmly as ever.

Pasha: Popularity is not reflected on us as personalities, and not affected. Already enough time has passed.

Is it harder to make new friends when you're popular?

Grisha: Yes! That's - Yeah!

Sonya: Once Grisha said : "If you have one friend - it is a miracle."

Pasha: Grisha is right (smiles).

Sonya: We hold on to the old friends who have been with us since the beginning. New relationship was very difficult.

Sergey: It's hard to know how a person will treat you for you really are. Whether he wants to sincerely carry out the best time, or wants to use you because you're playing in a band.  Scared to trust something sacred, because at any moment "friend" can tell it to anyone. It takes time to understand the present attitude towards you.

Sonya: Yes, and time can do nothing to show. I was betrayed by both old and new friends. Now I'm cautiously looking for some new friends and I find it hard to trust people.

Do you have a dislike of your creativity, style, aggression?
After all, every band has both admirers and Antipathy.

Grisha: We have - no. But in 2007, 2008, we faced rejection by the society for our appearance, manners of dress. Now in Russia, it has become easier, but the problem of rejection of everything new, otherwise still exists. And among the people in this law is valid herd. Hopefully, things will soon change and we would like to be in the west.  For example, even in Lithuania everything was much better. In a hotel, I was talking to some football fans, and none of them said a word about what I have, for example, nails painted. In the same hotel we came across an elderly lady from Norway, which saw our tattoos, smiled and began to show hers. They have a different world, a different mentality ... like another planet.

Pasha: We are not the most united people. We must stick together, but instead we are looking at each other differences and shortcomings.

What other difficulties you have had to overcome on the road to success?

Sonya: The most difficult thing I had to change was the social circle. We have already talked about the friendship ... It was a time when I moved away from many friends and it was my most difficult thing to do.

Pasha: I think the most difficult part still lies ahead.

Grisha: Of course, I had a difficult time when we worked and studied, and tried to find a producer. We refused, saying that our music - not the format. But then it was taken for granted and did not seem insurmountable difficulties.

And whether there is the desire to drop everything when something goes wrong?

Sonya: Why turn away from the path you chosen, why look for new horizons if you already know what is the soul.

Pasha: To throw the most impossible thing. All the same return to us.

What do you think are the major problems of alternative music in Russia? After all, you have to feel them for yourself.

Sonya: The Russian show business as a whole is virtually absent. Only the "senior" artists, who hold only due to its former glory, and a onetime merit. Break in this world is very complicated.

Grisha: I would say that the Russian show business in general is dead. Even the masters of our platform, which is constantly shown on TV, for example, Zhanna Friske, or Alla Pugacheva, do not travel around the country. Development does not occur. And the alternative scene, we actually do not exist. It is all underground bands. In Russia, too stereotypical perception of alternatives. For example, for some reason they think that rock music is- music for the near, hairy freaks. Of course, I'm exaggerating, but the alternative in Russia, although is not taken seriously.

Sergey: Bands does not develop, because they only see a dead end in front. There is no incentive for creativity.

Pasha: The television is very rigid "no format". If you play something a little heavier than the "norm", it never gets to the leading music channels.

And what do you see ways to solve these problems?

Pasha: In front of the whole country this issue in Krasnoyarsk. We were there at the bottom of Russia. Just like in the west - have set the second stage - an alternative. At the celebration there were many people and everyone had a choice of what music to listen to. Such areas open up with two different scenes - pop and alternative - an ideal option.

Sonya: In Krasnoyarsk, there was also competition held among local rock bands. Best Group received the award or get produced. Unfortunately, in Russia, such a system have not yet developed. But a start.

Grisha: We need to get rid of the notion of "no format" on television. For example, in western music of different styles in harmony with each other and takes an equal amount of airtime. We have the leading music channels that are now showing exclusively to popular music. Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach. But in the past has often been seen clips Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach. Although, I am sure that within a few years television generally die. Imposition of tastes on music channels already done its job and "turned away" the audience. All music is now on the Internet. Soon all television will be what  I have at home, for example, a TV, where you can go online.

But there are a decent alternative to the Russian band , despite all the difficulties?

Pasha: There are plenty. I have friends who play professionally so that you get the feeling of going to a concert of serious western band. By the way! Here it is, another alternative to break into the country - the scornful attitude to Russian music.

Sergey: Yes, if you like a Russian band. And if it's overseas, all immediately thought: "They came from America! Hence must go! "But one must admit that recently an alternative to Russia, though slowly, but gaining momentum.

Grisha: There are many good Russian bands.  For example, I like the Deform and Idea FIX.

And if you have a favorite artist, to whom would you like to get into the dressing room to talk to?

Sonya: The band, Slayer. In spring, they will be coming to Moscow ... we would certainly like to talk to them in the dressing room (laughs)

Grisha: Slayer and Metallica - to me they are the ideological bands. Even as a child it me made an incredible impression of Metallica's lyrics, which I then translated. I would like to talk to the songwriter, and say "thanks" for the music.

And how do you feel about the theory about the end of the world in 2012?

Sonya: Oh there are so many theories ... They say that the Earth will change the poles, and that some Cameta deadly fly, and that the planet Nibiru, which revolves in an elliptical orbit between the sun and the earth suddenly come nearer to the ground and attract it, and that all of the next Planet will also be destroyed. I also heard the theory that the end of the world pereositsya in 2014. The ends of Mayan calendar, simply begins a new era. And there's no end of the world!

Sonya, Female - bassist, but still in her heels and a little dress - the image of a rare hard to combine femininity and playing bass guitar?

Sonya: In the band I feel her. His "kid" (smiles). But at the same time, because femininity has not been denied.

And finally ... what you advise would you give to a young novice band?

Sonya: We need to try all possible ways, all companies, all the labels.

Grisha: Do not give up and always strive towards the goal! Fight!

A few minutes later our heroes of today were already on stage, basking in the applause of most popular songs such as "After the Rain", "Autumn" and new song "My Heart" The audience sang with the band. "These are the songs for which I first loved when I learned about the band - says Anna, who came to the concert with her mother - I'm 16 years old. My first time at the club. And this is my best New Year!  Thanks to the band to Kit-I for this holiday!".

Well, we wish the young informal continue to please fans with new songs and successfully play the following concerts of the tour, which will soon be held in Samara, Ekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Ufa, Krasnoyarsk, Izhevsk.

Thanks a lot to @ mellkid011 on twitter for some of the translation!
